2026 is the first year the Add Back functionality has been available for Georgia’s Qualified Education Expense (QEE) Tax Credit program.
The Georgia Department of Revenue is reallocating any unfunded or underfunded 2026 QEE tax credits
that were approved in January 2026 but not funded before the initial 60-day deadline (March 2026).
The amount of available addback credits is unknown as of 9/1/2026; however, approvals are expected to be prorated.
Who can request an Add Back?
First-Time Donors - If you haven’t participated in 2026, you may apply for up to the maximum allowed for your filing status.
Returning Donors - If you were approved and donated previously in 2026, you may apply for the remaining amount under your contribution limit (MFJ Example: If you originally requested the maximum of $5,000 for your tax filing status of married filing jointly, and were approved and already donated $2,434 earlier in 2026, you could now submit a request and potentially be approved for the remaining $2,566 as an Add Back. Please note: We are expecting all requests to be prorated.)
